Guide: Best Skateboards for Beginners!

Beginners guide to buying your first skateboard

When I choose my first skateboard I did many research. And I heard many people saying long skateboard is good. So, my first skateboard is longboard. But after years of playing skateboard, I have tried different types of skateboards, and I feel those content can be help for beginners. For beginners, it is recommended to buy skateboards in skateboard shops, because there will be special staff to introduce and recommend suitable skateboards. For most beginners in college or high school, these full size boards are 8 inches wide or more for older viewers. There are signs of inferior complete boards, and ideally you should avoid buying the following boards:

Beginner friendly skateboard types:

Longboards: Longboards have extra long and different shaped decks, mainly larger wheels and other trucks. Longboards are not suitable for tricks like ollies and Kickflips. On the contrary, they are perfectly suited to transportation, for example, long distance. Larger wheels can also lower the sound of skateboard and make you feel more stable and smoother when playing. Harder wheels tend to be faster while softer wheels are slower because they grip better. Therefore, it is very friendly for beginners learn using longboards plus large wheels.

Cruiser boards are different in length, width and shape from normal boards. As a complete beginner, it will be a while before you are ready to start learning flips on your board. As a result, thinner, more technical boards are not ideal. The wide cruiser deck gives you more stability and room to get used to standing on your deck. If you consider daily transportation, this can also be a good choice.

Then I think for cruiser board is better to go with a wheel that’s 53 mm or larger. Larger wheels will provide a faster ride and they are more conducive to handling different types of terrain. The design of cruiser skateboards simply makes them a mix of a modern skateboard and a longboard, at the same time, is less heavy than longboard.  And it is not hard to learn. This website also introduce more different size of cruiser boards, which can give a better understanding. https://www.skateboardershq.com/are-cruiser-skateboards-good-for-beginners

Double kick skateboard (regular) It's the standard skateboard and the most popular and widely used design. It works well on skateparks, street skating, and on almost all types of riding. They are lightweight and a great choice for people who are new to skateboarding. However, for beginners, I would suggest choose large wheel (around 60mm). Then if you have learned basic how to play, change to small size wheel (50-58mm).  The big, soft wheels also make it easier to learn how to play because your board will feel more stable, and the larger riding surface or contact patch provides extra grip, making it easier for you to balance
